What to do when someone dies.
If your loved one dies at home
Call the family doctor or in some cases the district nurses.
Once death has been certified by the doctor or district nurse please call your chosen Funeral Director. We will bring your loved one into our care within 60 mins.
We will then get in touch with you and arrange a time that’s convenient for you to discuss funeral arrangements.
If the death should occur in a nursing home the staff will act on your behalf.
If your loved one dies in hospital
The hospital will issue the medical certificate for you to register your loved-ones death. You will be required to collect this from the bereavement office.
We will liaise with the hospital on your behalf to arrange to bring your loved one into care.
In some cases the hospital staff will have to refer the death to the coroner. They will not be able to issue the medical certificate in this instance, this will be handed over to the coroners office.

If the death is unexpected
Firstly call 999. Most likely an ambulance and the police will be in attendance, do not be alarmed as this is normal procedure.
You will be asked what funeral director you would like to use, this is where you would say Adams & Young Funeral Directors, the police will call us directly.
A coroner is a doctor or lawyer employed by The Crown to investigate unexpected deaths. This can delay the funeral arrangements but don’t worry this is normal.
If the death is decided to be of natural causes, the coroner will issue a notification and a post mortem will not be necessary. If a post mortem or inquest is necessary registration cannot take place until the process is complete.
Once the corner is satisfied funeral arrangements can then take place.
